One of Tramonto's biggest location advantages is its proximity to Interstate 17. That makes it convenient for residents commuting south toward other parts of Phoenix while also providing easy access north toward destinations such as Sedona and Flagstaff.

The I-17/Dove Valley Parkway interchange is also a key access point for this part of North Phoenix, and Carefree Highway provides an east-west connection toward Cave Creek and the northeast Valley. The Loop 101 is farther south and connects residents to Glendale, Scottsdale and other parts of the metro area.

For someone relocating, I always recommend looking at where you'll be commuting before choosing a Phoenix neighborhood. Tramonto's northern location can be a great fit for some lifestyles, but drive times can vary significantly depending on where you work and the time of day.

One of my favorite things about living in this part of North Phoenix is how close you are to the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve. The City of Phoenix maintains an extensive trail system with options ranging from relatively flat desert walks to challenging summit hikes.

Apache Wash Loop | Easy
The Apache Wash Loop is a great option when you want desert scenery without a major climb. The City of Phoenix rates it Easy, with a distance of approximately 5.6 miles and about 200 feet of elevation change. Expect wide-open Sonoran Desert views, cactus gardens and a multi-use trail popular with hikers and mountain bikers.

Dixie Mountain Loop | Moderate
For more elevation and views, the Dixie Mountain Loop from Desert Vista Trailhead is rated Moderate. The 3.8-mile loop has approximately 401 feet of elevation change and offers rolling desert terrain and views toward Dove Valley.

Sidewinder Trail | Moderate/Difficult
If you want something more challenging, the Sidewinder Trail is rated Moderate/Difficult by the City of Phoenix. At approximately 7 miles, it is the longest and most technical trail in the northern section of the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve and travels through changing terrain with climbs, washes and expansive desert views.

The nearby trailheads are a real lifestyle advantage of this area. Desert Vista Trailhead is near I-17, while Apache Wash Trailhead can be reached from the Dove Valley Parkway/Sonoran Desert Drive corridor.

One of the things that makes Tramonto stand out is that the outdoor lifestyle isn't limited to nearby hiking trails. The community itself offers two community pool areas, parks, playgrounds and sports courts, giving residents plenty of ways to enjoy being outside close to home. 

The two recreation areas offer slightly different amenities. Tramonto West includes a community pool, children's pool and playground, while Tramonto East includes a pool, children's pool, spa, playground, grassy area, sand volleyball, tennis and basketball courts.  There are also shaded picnic areas and places to sit and gather throughout the community. The public Tramonto Park adds another neighborhood recreation option with basketball, volleyball, a playground, picnic/grill areas and shade structures.

For someone relocating to Phoenix, I think this is an important part of understanding Tramonto. You aren't simply buying a home in North Phoenix. You're getting a neighborhood where you can walk to the pool, take the kids to a playground, play tennis or basketball, meet friends at the park, or head out for a nearby desert hike without having to drive across the Valley.
